A. Theo cách phát âm (manner of articulation):

  2. Âm xát (fricatives): /f/, /v/, /θ/, /ð/, /s/, /z/, /ʃ/, /ʒ/, /h/

  3. Âm tắc xát (affricates): /tʃ/, /dʒ/

  4. Âm mũi (nasals): /m/, /n/, /ŋ/

  5. Âm bên/lưỡi chạm nhẹ (lateral/approximants): /l/, /r/, /j/, /w/

B. Theo vị trí phát âm (place of articulation):

  1. Hai môi (bilabial): /p/, /b/, /m/, /w/

  2. Môi – răng (labiodental): /f/, /v/

  3. Răng (dental): /θ/, /ð/

  4. Alveolar (lưỡi chạm lợi): /t/, /d/, /s/, /z/, /n/, /l/
